Powers: Able to "Junction" to beings called Guardian Forces, which give them increased physical abilities and the power to use magic. He's carrying around Eden, Doomtrain and Carbuncle at the moment. His ability with a gunblade isn't precisely a power but he is very, very good.
Weaknesses: He has a very hard time relying on others, believing that everyone will leave him eventually and is fairly socially inept. He can muddle through most of the time but anything relating to emotional attachment to him just goes right over his head.

Current:
At the end of the Sorceress War, he became involved in with Rinoa Heartilly, a young woman that his team had taken a contract with. They both tried their best but the relationship ended in disaster. Too much of Squall's time was taken up in his duties to Garden and Rinoa couldn't reconcile herself to being involved with a man raised as a mercenary. The breakup just enforced his view that people would leave eventually and he threw himself into his work to the point that he was given an ultimatum. The Garden medical staff informed him that he would either take a well-deserved vacation or would let it be known that the Commander of Garden was being put on forced medical leave due to extreme burnout. He chose the more discrete option, heading to Trabia to help clean out more of their monster problem. They could make him not work but they couldn't make him be idle.

During his trek through the woods, there was a wrong turn somewhere and he ended up in the woods outside the House. He was shocked to find Seifer and Irvine there claiming they'd been stuck there for months. To him, it had been at most three days since seening the sharpshooter. He's been in sort of a daze since then, not quite sure what to do with himself and dodging questions. He knows that with Zell there though, it won't be long until everyone knows what's going on.

He's still not sure what to make of Seifer. They had been lovers for a while, before the War. Squall is still bitter over Seifer having left to join the Sorceress. He does still care for the blond but his own emotional issues and being fresh from an ugly breakup is making it hard to make discisions. He's also physically exhausted, having run himself into the ground before being forced to leave Garden.

Past:
He was sent to Edea's orphanage as a child, presumably after the death of his mother. His foster sister remained there for a time until Ellone was sent away for safety amid various kidnappings. Squall decided then that everyone would leave him eventually and it was better not to care. He went to Balamb Garden eventually, forming an immediate rivalry with Seifer. The two competed in everything, eventually ended in a duel the day of the SeeD exams that left them both scarred.

He fought in the "Sorceress War" leading a group SeeDs to destroy Ultimecia, a sorceress trying to take over their world. Over the course of the journey, he began to depend on the others, something that was disconcerting at first and in the middle of the conflict was given command over Balamb Garden and it's mercenaries. It wasn't something he wanted, wasn't something he felt he was ready for or remotely qualified but he's done his best to keep up with his duties. After the war, he was also told by his foster sister Ellone who his parents were. He hasn't done anything about it yet, including contacting Laguna to let him know he knows.
